A new Extra Care housing development in Alnwick, Northumberland, has taken another giant step forward with the appointment of a full-time scheme manager to oversee the day to day running of the building.
David Curran, 33, will be based at the new £5 million state-of-the-art Weavers’ Court development, which is nearing completion and is due to open its doors in Spring 2016.
He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge after working in the housing and care sectors for the past 15 years with five years specialising in Extra Care housing. David is now employed by the Supported Housing Older Persons Team at Isos Housing, with the task of managing the new 58 one and two-bedroom Weavers’ Court development for people aged 55 and over.
David’s appointment is another key milestone in the development, which will boast a range of shared facilities for residents to enjoy including a convenience shop, communal lounge, restaurant, coffee shop and hair salon. David said:
“I am very excited about Weavers’ Court and the benefits that it will deliver, not only to residents but to others in the local community who will be able to access some of the on-site facilities. Residents will also enjoy the independence which comes with living in an Extra Care scheme as well as the security of on-site support 24 hours a day.”
Although the scheme is another couple months away from completion, buyers have already been quick to reserve their dream homes off-plan at the popular development with apartments available to buy through shared ownership or to rent from Isos.
Michael Farr, Executive Director of Development and Property at Isos Housing, said:
“I am delighted to welcome David to the team and am confident he will be a great asset to the organisation and to the residents living at Weavers’ Court.
There was a lot of interest in this role but David’s experience in the housing and care sectors especially in Extra Care was a great benefit. In his previous roles he has been responsible for delivering care services and support packages for a number of organisations across the North East.
Construction work is progressing well and people interested in the development who have visited our sales office have all been impressed with the size and quality of the scheme. Since the turn of the New Year, we have noticed a steady increase in interest for the apartments so I would encourage anyone interested in Weavers’ Court to contact our sales office or speak to the team at the Your Move Alnwick branch.
We are busy working on a new show apartment which will be unveiled at the end of March so anyone interested in buying an apartment can see the physical size and quality of the finishings and more information will be announced soon.”
Extra Care schemes like Weavers’ Court are designed to promote independence in older and vulnerable people, while enabling those with chronic and other health conditions to live in the community, preventing admissions to residential care.
Each of the spacious, modern, one and two bedroom apartments will include a large lounge/diner, kitchen and storage space as well as a private terrace or balcony. David will oversee the scheme’s day-to-day running, with care provision available on site if needed.
Under shared ownership, a share in a one or two-bedroom apartment at Weavers’ Court can be purchased on a part buy, part rent basis. Purchasers can buy up to a 75% share in the property and must be aged 55 or over and have a housing or recognised care need.
Prices range from £93,750 for a maximum 75% share in a one-bedroom apartment or £103,125 for the same share of a two-bedroom apartment. Additional service charges will apply.
Anyone interested in buying an apartment or to find out more information should visit the sales office at Weavers’ Court between 10.30am and 3.30pm Wednesdays and Fridays, contact Your Move Alnwick at 39 Bondgate Within, on 01665 603 443, or visit www.weavers-court.com
