Arts & crafts, a quiz and New Age Kurling were just some of the activities organised at Weavers’ Court this February thanks to volunteers from a nearby school.
Six students from The Duchess’s High School in Alnwick attended the scheme to plan and run the activities for the residents as part of their volunteering challenge.
The project was run in partnership with Northumberland Youth Service and the students from years 7-9 organised a Northumbrian quiz and Valentine’s Crafts making session. Residents also had the opportunity to show the students a skill or two by inviting them to a game of New Age Kurling which everyone enjoyed.
Diane Dakers, Extra Care Assistant Scheme Manager & Activities Coordinator at Weavers’ Court said: “It was lovely to see the students and residents get together and have some fun. The residents enjoyed getting to know the group and were pleased that the volunteers grew in confidence. We hope to plan more activities like this in future.”
